James Cameron's Avatar: A Caribbean Review
By: Gyles Gylochi Pollard

When I first heard about this movie I was angry that it was not ‘The Last Air bender’.  But dudes and dudettes this is by far the best film for 2009. If what they say is true about "a trilogy", then Lord of the Rings will look like sloppy seconds.

I live in England but fortunately to be vacationing in Barbados, all new movies premiere on a Wednesday, so armed with my nachos n cheese and a jumbo Pepsi, I was ready to see the near 3 hrs movie. The story is based around humans and their greedy ways flying to a neighbouring planet Pandora to steal, kill and pillage from the amazing indigenous people the Na’vi. These blue creatures with carbon fibre in their bones and lion/tiger facial features are highly spiritual people and are at one with Eywa the universal force and deity of their planet Pandora.

Jake Sully a US Marine has the wonderful experience of becoming a Na’vi avatar by means of human genetically engineered technology. He has to learn their ways and force them to relocate in three months before the order is made by Colonel Quaritch to kill at will in order to attain their natural resources.

For me this is a story about my ancestors of Africa, South and North America, Australia, Caribbean and their battle with evil minded men. It has brought about emotions like when I first watch “Roots”. I hope this movie touches your hearts and inspires you to consider looking after our planet Earth and being at one with our Creator and all Creation, like the Na’vi. My rating is 1000 out of 1000. Enjoy, as you will not be disappointed.
