I first heard about Rachel when the I attended the Robot Love Art Show in Florida in January. My colleagues at 321Agency wanted to bring something they felt would be different from most of the local bands but kool enough to jive well with such a diverse crowd. After checking her out online, and listening to a few tracks they were convinced Rachel was the answer.
It turned out that their calculations were correct - Rachel and her live band were a huge hit! Since our show and a few 'keeping in touch' exchanges, Rachel has continued to build up a huge following all over the U.S.
I would describe Rachel's music as magically exquisite goofy pleasantness. Goodrich calls it "shake-a-billy": "Not rockabilly — it doesn't rock; it shakes," she explained. Well I can't argue with her there! Her performances are electric and unexpected as Rachel herself plays about 16 different instruments including the ukulele and the kazoo!! Really how many times have you seen a show where someone plays a kazoo?
Recently I was catching up on "Weeds" (Showtime series starring Mary-Louise Parker) and at the closing credits there was that familiar sound of "Light Bulb" from Rachel's recently released "Tinker Toys". I must say that I was delighted and not entirely surprised.
Rachel continues to tour around the US and I am looking forward to assisting in bringing Ms. Goodrich to the Western New York area to share her good vibes with us here kind folk some time in the new year.
